Prevent Your Stucco Ceiling Disaster With These Life-saving Tips
Hello everyone, Thank you for your support! Ive done many ceiling repairs in my days and they have evolved throughout the expanse of time. Did you know that time is an acronym? T.I.M.E. The infinite measurement of expansion. I no longer try to conceal bolts used to hold up the ceiling by boring through the stucco and then covering the bolts with more stucco.. From now on we use the stucco for leverage while using lag bolts to re-secure stucco soffits, also known as lids, or ceilings. Here is a short demonstration of how we do that.

When Stucco Meets Concrete. Noooooooo. It’ll crack bad
Просмотров 681Месяц назад
Hey everyone, Thanks for checking in today. Sometimes small budget contractors take one too many shortcuts and the homeowner pays for it in the end. In this video I explain what causes cracking when stucco meets concrete. Concrete swells. Although we don't see it, it does. And when it swells the stucco cannot defend itself so it will crack from the pressure. In the video I show some necessary t...

Dry rotted stucco archway removal DIY

Welcome back everyone and thanks for checking in today. A lady called me about having this stucco arch removed in her rental home. As weather had allowed me to move in and take down the arch, sometimes its best to use a methodical approach? The arch was connected to 5- 2x10" beams which were rotted as well. The beams were bolted through the top of the arch with 10" lag bolts. The bolts were jus...

Why not seal with caulking at rhe end , to avoid thst very not nice looking gap
Do what you want
Just be sure you don’t plug the weep holes when you’re caulking that not so nice looking gap
No scratch ?
Hahaha your funny

Thank you for the incredible tutorial Ken, this is just what I needed to see before repairing my stucco.

I’ve been getting quotes for a repair like this and some people want $1500+

Your sweater remained clean, impressive.. 👍
For the most part. You’re right I just put on over an inch of mud and it stayed fairly clean. It’s an old sweater. Thanks for chiming in.
Your experience is high level.
Thank you kind sir!
I love it. The patch is definitely professional and attitude However the walk away clean up is especially important like putting down a 10 x10 tarp makes it look like you were never there
what material did you use for the texture?
beautiful ❤
We basecoat the densglass. Never using a sponge float. Then second coat it with sytheic finish. Float that with a plastic trowel.
Thanks for your input James
I superficially watched this video as I am in need to replace the siding in my house from t11 to stucco. I wish this contractor was in Florida where I live so I could possibly have him do my house. What a serious thoughtful job.
Beautiful job Ken...
Thank you for posting ken! Part of me wants to get back in the plastering game. But then i remember all the times the stucco burned my chest or hands 😂😂😂

Nice Ken! awesome work thanks for sharing, learning golden nugget by golden nugget from your videos
I appreciate the compliment thank you very much Adrian!
Seems like quite a bit of artistry involved here. Have never worked with stucco but have a stucco garage that has some cracking stucco. going to attempt to do it myself but, this is years of practice we are seeing here and if my repair is half as good as this one i will be grateful.
Hello mrtodod , and thank you for the collateral compliments on my work. I really appreciate that. Might I suggest that you do your repair in three different steps over three different days to achieve optimal results. No need to stress using fast setting materials
@@AbersonPlastering Thanks so much for the advice.
First🎉 thank you
Glad to comply
2:08 I know this is an old video, but did you replace that rotten wood right by your elbow
No it’s solid and in good condition see how hard the wood is at 6:29. All of the wood is good. It looks like that copper plumbing will need to be replaced soon. Perhaps it would be better to build a hatch to access the plumbing at a later time., instead of permanently sealing the access here What do you think phdez09?

Can you stucco over existing original stucco (has not been painted and is structurally sound) or do you have to apply a bonding agent before new stucco? Doing the same texture just a darker color
Hi, you absolutely positively need to roll some type of either weld crete or a roll on acrylic bonding agent (a thick one slightly diluted with water for distance). Because it has never been painted the new stucco will dry up instantly if you do not apply a sealer and I recommend Larsons Weld Crete. Your welcome Jeff. A free shout out to Jeff Larson here. If you can't find weld crete then use and roll on bonding agent of some sort, preferably like white glue.
wow that was an amazing 57 minutes ! great video!!
Thanks so much. Hope it all goes well for you

Hi Steve, I have a home in casa grande. Tried it out one summer. Too far to drive for steady work from CG. Here in Nor cal. It’s an easy commute to who work and not that dry heat. I put a renter in my home in CG. Thank for the comment. Have a great weekend ahead.
great video brother
Gracious !

The guys experienced yet humble in his attitude. I consider that an indication of good character. Pleasant. I haven't had a stucco job in a while and I wish I did. I do all kind of stuff, stucco just being one of them. I miss it a bit.
I've got that same Darby. Seeing that makes me want to do a little plastering job. Problem is I'm getting kind of old to be doing shit like that unless I had a reliable guy to mix and tote.
No I here ya. Thanks for sharing. Is the Darby you have a ridgeless edge?
@@AbersonPlastering yup. I live in s Florida so opening up the stucco isn't often needed.
Great job 👏 If I may ask, what was the secondary white coating used? Thanks Ken, be well!
Hi Steve, the white stuff was course stucco finish by Western stucco in Sacramento Ca. Thanks for your comment
Thank you Ken! Great tutorial!
Thank you Gina! Hope it all works out for you!
As far as explaining scratch and Brown you did the best!
Thank you Rhonda. Happy Plastering,
great personality! I enjoyed the video
What type the cement do you use
Riverside Plastic cement. Primarily because Riverside bags have a plastic liner to protect from moisture.
OMGawd, who are you????? you are the Best Weather person I'ved watched!
Hi Deebrock. I’m not a weather person. I’m a 33 year plastering contractor with over 39 years experience in the trade
Looks good brother🤙🏼 Keep on teaching and slinging that Mud👍🏻 I personally paint on my bonding agent with a paint brush straight to the repair that is in contact with all repairs. Also, I would mix straight in the wheelbarrow. Much easier. Hope you guys have a prosperous summer. ✌🏻
Thanks, you too. I sometimes still do that. It also depends what glue you are using, what they are selling, what's available. Thanks for chiming in DanielParsons5519
Learned some extra skills today. You took it to the next level for me -- placing the forms, being patient with the setup times, doing the extra fine tuning -- cleaning the tools as you go. Just fantastic craftsmanship Thank you !
What kind of finish coat is that?
Conventional semi smooth
I worked flat concrete for years but never stucco. I've got a patch to do a little bit bigger than this one plus it has a brick pattern to it. Feeling pretty confident about it after watching this. Thanks
Thanks for sharing
If our house was made of synthetic stucco (I assume that's acrylic), can I do patches with regular stucco? The finish is a smooth flat finish today, which I need to match.
Hi. I’d rather you didn’t but you could use regular stucco. Regular stucco will absorb water whereas your acrylic will repel it. Regularr stucco will change color like a rock when it gets wet. On a personal note. I prefer regular stucco to acrylic. Acrylic has its advantages it cracks less plus it looks nice. However the beauty of regular stucco is underrated. Yes regular stucco finish cracks more than acrylic. But to be able to see the beauty in it is subjective. I love the tricolor attributes of regular as long as it hasn’t been painted. If you are going to paint regular stucco, you may as well use acrylic
Great video. I have some smaller repairs to do and I am going to tackle them myself now.
You can do it!
Color your patch mud to be close t existing color.
Just waiting for you to back into the wall with your margin trowel sticking out
Thanks for checking in
Thank you for showing all the products that you use. Makes it easier for us novices when we are at the hardware store to know exactly what to get. Thank you for a great video - very helpful.
Thank you! I will do my best to show whatever I can
5 scoops of cement strait into bucket, fill with sand is a good easy mix. Same for concrete mix.
Awesome video! No blab just good info
I appreciate that!
